Dungog Film Festival and the big street parade

June 30, 2012

Today Dungog was alive with thousands of people who turned up here especially for the big street parade that is part of the Dungog Film Festival weekend event.

There were so many groups represented in the parade and I will share more news with you over the next few days.

Meantime, here are a few pics of the group that I joined – the Local Living and Sustainability Group – we encourage Dungog shoppers to use alternatives to plastic bags.

To insert some fun into this event, a competition was held for the best dressed bag which could be either an original or a refurbished supermarket type bag.   My friend Dorothy and I had a play-day making our handyman type bags.   In my haste to join the event my camera got knocked so it switched to black and white instead of colour productions.  Still they look very good and show you the essence of a wonderful day in my home-town.

More to come tomorrow…..so stay tuned.

Challenged…. by my Quilters Guild

June 22, 2012

Catching up with all the events at the Sydney Quilt Show I spotted this quilt.

I produced it for the annual Guild’s challenge, the theme being simply yellow and purple.

They were the only colours to be used.   It was my attempt to abstract my experience in the Bungle Bungle Ranges, in Western Australia.

As you can see my Bungles was amongst lots of other beautiful quilts made by other members for this particular challenge.

Moorish…. is this flower theme.

June 13, 2012

Dungog’s drizzly miserable cold weather affected my mood somewhat, so what do I do?  Get out my acrylic paints and fabric and play around.

I am not sure how I feel about this piece, except it is “interesting”.   Do you think so?

Being somewhat intrigued by this technique I need to experiment some more if I am to create a piece that I love.  But working with flowers has become quite moorish.

The annual quilt exhibition at Darling Harbour is here again!

Time for flowers

June 8, 2012

The powder puff tree that grows in our front garden was the inspiration for this experiment.

Attending a 3-day workshop by tutor Jane Sassaman a few weeks ago, we were encouraged to bring a flower and then abstract it whilst retaining its essence.

I must say I really enjoyed creating abstracted imagery, based upon an “examination” of the real thing.

This is my result.

Three little quilts

June 1, 2012

These 3 small quilts for walls were made using a very playful approach to construction and design.

I am curious as to which one you prefer and the reasons why.
