Shibori dyeing day

May 18, 2017

A playday with two friends, using Procion MX cold water dyes produced many delights for each of us.  Here are two that came from my folding and twisting.

Hands on Silk.

Don’t you just love the feel of pure silk?

Dungog’s  weather is losing its biting chill that keeps me out of my cold wet room.  Warming midday sunshine is beckoning me to this special place where I can dye to my hearts content.  Dyeing silk is a delicious activity and shibori techniques are always so enjoyable for their surprise element.

Another technique on wool felt using shibori

May 22, 2015

Following my two previous felt experiments, I made this felt piece much thicker.

Instead of using a dyebath I applied a range of different colours (by insertion) into the wool before steaming.  This gave better colour management (in an ad hoc sort of way).

Hopefully these photos give you an idea of the process.  Quite entranced with the result achieved.  Love to hear your comments…..

Another piece of white felt was dyed using plastic & wood resists.

More resistance!

This is the result of various dyes being applied with resists.

Silk wrap.

September 25, 2013

Talking to a friend, I was presented with a challenge.

To make a silk wrap with colours of the sky and grass – that is a daily sight, living in Dungog.

Why, you may be thinking!  The best reason – To welcome the birth of her baby, due shortly.

So to offer a choice, I made  two with subtle different graduations of blues and greens.  This is one of them.

It is dyed with Landscape dyes, using a shibori technique, a fascinating method.
